Without anything to reference when I parked, that's how far from the blue Focus I was. I only brought a 6ft tape measure. So how far was the silver Focus from me when he first crossed the line into my lane when he !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ? 7 feet? 10? Still way the heck too close.

In theory, if you know how fast the you and the Focus were going (or could estimate), you might be able to figure a distance out:

Find the difference in speed between you and the Focus. Take that speed in mph and convert it to feet per second. Pick a reference frame in the video and another frame a set time later. Maybe 1 second or a couple tenths of a second depending what timing your setup records. Pick a reference point on the Focus to compare between frame 1 and frame 2. The calculation should give you a rough idea what a foot, or several feet, looks like in the video. Especially if you overlay the frames.

For example: if you were going 60 mph, and the Focus was going 70 mph, the speed difference is 10 mph, or, 14.67 feet per second. That would work out to 14.67 feet between time 0 and time 1 second of the reference point.

Of course, that doesn't take into consideration if the Focus sped up or you slowed down.

Hopefully I'm explaining myself clearly. I'm not sure if I am.

An alternative could be to measure a known distance on the blue Focus. Perhaps the rear wheel well? Then you could judge the distance based on that measurement.

about as far as the POS Camaro was to me when he decided to cut across the solid white lines at the exit ramp trowing gravel everywhere, bouncing stones across the front end of my 2015 428. You need to exit, use your turn signal so others can give you some space!
